Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using our fantasy hockey start/sit tool

How does the 'Who Should I Start' tool work?

Our tool compares up to 4 NHL players using their projected fantasy stats for today's games. It analyzes key categories like goals, assists, shots, hits, and more to show you which player wins each statistical matchup, giving you data-driven start/sit recommendations.

What categories are used to compare players?

We include all major fantasy hockey categories: Goals, Assists, Points, Shots on Goal, Hits, Blocked Shots, Plus/Minus, Penalty Minutes, Power Play Points. For goalies: Wins, Saves, Goals Against, Save Percentage, and Shutouts. Plus DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo fantasy points.

Can I customize which categories to compare?

Yes! You can select specific categories or use presets like 'Yahoo Standard', 'ESPN Cats', 'Points League', or 'Goalies Only' to match your league's scoring format. This lets you focus on the stats that actually matter for your lineup.

How often are the projections updated?

Projections are updated hourly throughout the day to reflect the latest lineup information, injury news, and confirmed starters. Data is sourced from SportsData.io and refreshed automatically.

What do the comparison tiers mean (DOMINATES vs WINS vs CLOSE)?

DOMINATES means a player leads by 50%+ in that category—a significant advantage. WINS indicates a 15-50% edge. CLOSE means less than 15% difference—essentially a toss-up. These tiers help you quickly identify where players have meaningful advantages.

Why does a player show 'No Game Today'?

If a player's team isn't scheduled to play today, they won't have projections available. The tool shows this warning so you know to check back on game day or consider other players who are actually playing.

Does this work for both head-to-head and roto leagues?

Absolutely! For H2H category leagues, focus on individual category wins. For roto or points leagues, use the fantasy points categories (Yahoo, DraftKings, FanDuel) to see overall projected production.

How accurate are the projections?

Projections are estimates based on historical performance, matchup data, and expected ice time. While no projection is perfect, they provide a solid baseline for decision-making. Always factor in your own knowledge of matchups and situations.
